NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After playing two games in Southern California during the weekend, Nashville got off to a slow start back home against Carolina. The Predators picked up their pace in the second period and used a three-goal third period to beat the Hurricanes.Roman Josi scored the tiebreaking goal late in the third to give Nashville a 3-2 victory Tuesday night. Ryan Ellis and Mike Fisher also scored and Pekka Rinne stopped 23 shots to help the Predators win for the third time in four games. The second period wasnt a gem, but it was much better than the first, Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. We started to build some steam. I thought we had some looks and some attempts. With the score tied at 2 late, Viktor Stalberg sent a pass from the right side to Josi in the high slot. Josi corralled the puck and fired a slap shot past Ward with 4:43 remaining to give the Predators their first lead.Stalberg, who had two assists, has battled injuries this season, and was recently waived and then sent down to Milwaukee of the AHL. Due to injuries to several forwards, Stalberg was recalled Saturday and has posted three assists in three games since.Unfortunately with injuries and all that kind of stuff, I havent really had a chance to show what I can do, Stalberg said. This is a little bit of my chance here, so I have to find a way to get the job done and show them I deserve to get as many minutes as I can out there.Eric Staal and Justin Faulk scored for Carolina and Cam Ward also finished with 23 saves. The Hurricanes snapped a two-game win streak.Staal gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead on a milestone goal with 2:35 remaining in the first period. With the Hurricanes on a power play and Staal down low, his original attempt hit traffic in the slot, but the rebound came back in his direction, and he was able to poke the puck over Rinne. It was Staals 300th career goal and came in the same building in which Carolina made the centre the second overall pick in the 2003 Entry Draft.I thought the game turned a little bit in the second, Carolina coach Bill Peters said. I thought they were better than us in the second.Ellis tied the score at 4:43 of the third. Stalberg carried the puck into the Carolina zone on the right side and left it in the right circle for the trailing Ellis, who continued down to the goal line and sent a shot that squeezed between Ward and the right post.Carolina took the lead at 8:14 of the third on Faulks power-play goal. They were forechecking pretty hard, obviously we knew they were going to come, Faulk said. Their D were pinching although that was pretty much happening all game. When were up a goal, the other team is going to come, especially in the third.Fisher took the rebound of Colin Wilsons shot and tied the game again just 2:15 after Faulks goal.In the third, we just kept getting better, Fisher said. We could kind of feel it coming, its just a matter of getting pucks to the net, getting hungry. When we do that, were successful.Filip Forsberg had the second assist on Fishers goal, giving him 38 points on the season, a new Nashville rookie record.NOTES: Nashville LW James Neal missed his third consecutive game with a lower-body injury. ... Forsberg has assists in his last three games. ... After going three games without a power-play goal, the Hurricanes connected on two of three opportunities Tuesday... You cant feel sorry for yourself in this league. I dont know how thats going to make you any better.Sundays 53-20 loss to the Packers was the worst defeat in Kellys two seasons and the third-most points ever scored against the Eagles (7-3). Moreover, it underscored several of the teams problems. On offence, Sanchez made some poor throws. But the receivers dropped a few passes and the offensive line didnt block well. LeSean McCoy ran better than he did in a blowout win against Carolina last Monday, but the game was out of reach. On defence, cornerbacks Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams and the rest of the secondary were picked apart by Aaron Rodgers. The front seven couldnt generate pressure and gave Rodgers way too much time to throw.Even special teams, who were Philadelphias biggest strength, allowed a 75-yard punt return for a score. We lost as a coaching staff, as a special teams team, as an offensive team and as a defensive team, Kelly said. Its not a finger-pointing operation. We all contribute to our wins and we all contributed to our losses.Unlike their other two losses, the Eagles never had a chance at Lambeau Field. They trailed 30-6 by halftime on their way to their worst loss since Peyton Manning and the Broncos dismantled them in Week 4 last season 52-20.In a 26-21 loss at San Francisco on Sept. 28, the Eagles had a chance to score the go-ahead touchdown but faiiled on two cracks from the 1.ddddddddddddIn a 24-20 loss at Arizona on Oct. 26, the Eagles couldnt convert in short-yardage at the goal line and then allowed a long TD pass to blow a 3-point lead. The Packers gave them a total beatdown from start to finish in all three phases. Green Bays high-flying offence scored four TDs, defence had two and special teams got one.Its a wakeup call, linebacker Trent Cole said. We need to get this off our minds, put it behind us and move on and win these next games. The Eagles fell into a first-place tie with Dallas and have two games against the Cowboys in the next four weeks. But they cant overlook the Tennessee Titans, who were 2-7 entering Monday nights game against Pittsburgh. The only way to get that bad taste out of your mouth is to go out and play again, Kelly said. The Eagles havent had much success against good opponents under Kelly. Theyre 7-0 against teams with a combined record of 25-45-1. Theyre 0-3 against teams with a combined record of 22-8. Overall, theyre 15-2 against teams .500 or worse and 2-8 against winning teams since 2013.Whether we win or lose, we look at the film and see the mistakes made and we have to improve, linebacker Connor Barwin said. Obviously there were more mistakes and theres a lot to correct. If you lose by 30 or 40 or you lose by 3, its still one loss in the column.NOTES: Kelly said QB Nick Foles hasnt taken a new X-ray since breaking his collarbone two weeks ago. Hell get that test in another week or two and be re-evaluated. Foles has been cleared to run and workout.___AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL___Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP_RobMaaddi ' ' '
